Phrase density is calculated using the number of words in each phrase multiplied by its occurrences, divided by total words. Stop-word filtering affects this table, not the focus keyword.

Keyword analysis suggestions

Suggestions will appear after you enter text.

What is keyword density?

Keyword density is the frequency of a keyword or phrase compared with the total number of words in a piece of content. It is usually expressed as a percentage. A keyword density checker helps writers identify how frequently particular terms appear in an article, landing page or other text.

How is keyword density calculated?

For a single-word keyword, density is calculated by dividing the number of keyword occurrences by the total number of words, then multiplying by 100.

Single-word formula:
Keyword density = (Keyword occurrences ÷ Total words) × 100

For a multi-word phrase, this checker also accounts for the number of words in the phrase. For example, a three-word phrase appearing four times represents twelve phrase-word occurrences.

Phrase density formula:
Phrase density = (Occurrences × Words in phrase ÷ Total words) × 100

Example of keyword density

Imagine an article contains 1,000 words. If the phrase "content marketing" appears 10 times, the phrase density calculated by this tool is 2%.

This percentage describes how often the phrase appears in the analyzed text. It does not predict search rankings.

What is a good keyword density for SEO?

There is no universally correct keyword density percentage published by Google. You may encounter suggestions such as 1% or 2% in SEO articles, but these are general industry references rather than official ranking requirements.

Use keyword density as a way to identify excessive repetition. If a phrase appears in nearly every sentence, review whether the wording sounds natural and whether the repetition helps readers.

What is keyword stuffing?

Keyword stuffing means repeating keywords or phrases excessively in an attempt to manipulate search rankings. This can make content difficult to read and may violate search engine spam policies.

A keyword density checker can help identify repeated terms, but a percentage alone cannot determine whether a page is keyword-stuffed. Context and natural language matter.

Why analyze two-word and three-word phrases?

Single-word analysis can reveal frequently repeated terms, but longer phrases often provide more context. For example, "online calculator" and "free online calculator" are more specific than the word "calculator" alone.

Reviewing phrases can help you understand the language used throughout your content and identify repeated expressions that may need editing.

What are stop words?

Stop words are common words such as "the", "and", "is", "to" and "of". They appear frequently in normal writing. Excluding them from the keyword table can make more meaningful terms easier to identify.

Does keyword density determine Google rankings?

No. Keyword density is not a reliable ranking formula. Search engines evaluate many aspects of content and context. Repeating a keyword more often does not automatically make a page more relevant or useful.

Focus on satisfying search intent, covering the subject thoroughly, using descriptive headings and writing naturally. This tool is intended to support content editing rather than predict search engine positions.

Frequently asked questions

How do I check keyword density?

Paste your content into the text area. Enter a focus keyword if you want to check a specific term or phrase. The tool calculates occurrences and density automatically.

Can I check a multi-word keyword?

Yes. You can enter phrases containing multiple words. The checker looks for consecutive matching words in your text.

Does this tool distinguish uppercase and lowercase?

No. Matching is case-insensitive, so uppercase and lowercase versions of the same word are treated as equivalent.

What is the difference between keyword frequency and density?

Frequency is the number of times a keyword appears. Density expresses its frequency as a percentage of the total words in the analyzed text.

Why should I remove stop words?

Common words can dominate frequency tables. Removing them helps highlight more distinctive terms and phrases.

Is there an ideal keyword density?

No official percentage guarantees good rankings. Use density as a diagnostic and avoid unnatural repetition.

Is my text uploaded to a server?

No. This checker analyzes text directly in your browser. Your content is not submitted to LifeAfterFlex.

Is the keyword density checker free?

Yes. The tool is free to use and does not require registration.
